Brisbane tattoos are a new and exciting concept. They have been popping up here for many years now and I have come to realise that the main point of tattooing is not just to create a signature but is also an aesthetic for the person. Some people like to use their tattoos to give that extra flair while others see them as a means to achieve a higher standard.

What have you learnt about tattooing in Brisbane

I have learnt a lot about tattooing from the staff at Tattoo Australia. This year I am getting some good feedback on how the tattooing process is still very young, they use an older method and are able to make more than a thousand colours of the finished product. This is definitely something that comes up in my classes.

Do you feel that Brisbane tattooing has moved outside of your culture as a whole

I really do but I think it is really important not to make me feel that way. Tattooing is just an artistic process because they don’t want the public to think that they are some weirdo art form. They want to say, Hey that’s what you want. And if there is somebody else using that, we want you to come and see what I can do with that. It’s great to see how people respond to it and how this can be something that is very personal for them.

How would you describe your tattoo process from top to bottom, how you approach it, where you are at in relation to your own body and the community and the artists who are going through it

First and foremost I try to have that first layer of tattoos. They all come with special notes. I do it for my own style and personality only. We all come from a similar background and background. Each tattoo has a different story and I try to avoid anything that could be construed as a connotation to people.

I like to think that it is just about giving meaning to any form of tattooing. If it sounds like a big deal, but there is no harm being associated with something that is simply tattooed or used.

What have you learnt about the community and tattoos

I haven’t really spent much time focusing on it but I have learned a lot about how people interact and who they are in relation to their communities.
