A new bill that would raise the minimum wage to 10.10 an hour in Wisconsin was introduced Wednesday by Representative Todd Schatz (D-Milwaukee).
The bill would also create a new minimum wage law and create a new state commission for increase the number of workers who could get a raise. The current 10.10 hourly wage works out to an average of 11,700. The proposed legislation is similar to a bill that had already been introduced earlier this year.
According to the National Partnership for Women, this is the second consecutive year that the Democratic-controlled Legislature has passed bills that raise or lower the minimum wage. Both were supported by the National Restaurant Association and the Wisconsin Restaurant Association.
The Wisconsin State Bar Association, which represents food and beverage companies said the bill was good for business.

The state has been a hotbed of wage inflation since 2011. In 2011, the state was hit hard by a record number of workers making less than minimum wage without benefits or deductions. Since then, job creation has returned somewhat to its pre-2007 level. There are currently 12 restaurants and a large number of small businesses that do not have full-time workers.
