Yes. The question about whether a divorced Catholic remarry is remarried is often the subject of heated political discussions. Some people argue that remarriage is necessary, however, because it allows for lifelong companionship. Others, like the religious conservative, say that only a divorced Catholic can remarry. Many people who claim to be Catholic say that remarriage requires a certain level of love, in the form of an extended marriage. However, this approach fails in many cases, and in fact many of those who claim to be Catholic claim otherwise. In the face of this fact, many Catholic couples who claim to live or marry in the United States are simply unable to get a divorce.

The Catholic Church may teach that there is no difference between a married Catholic and one who no longer has a legal right to marry as to whether or not a divorce can be made. The church will tell you this, as does the Catholic Church. But some Catholic commentators (and, for the most part, non-Catholic commentators) believe that when it comes to remarried Catholics, the Bible teaches that such marriages are not valid and that we should honor the sanctity of marriage, which should be the central tenet of the Roman Church.
