I like pianos. I’m a sucker for them. But as a musician there’s certainly a certain thrill to hearing great pianos. I’m a huge fan, especially in the early days of playing.

What makes you think that you can play with a Cello-style piano in such a compact way

You know, the thing with a classical-style piano is that it’s always pretty wide, so you play it slowly, but there’s some kind of rhythm. You’ve got to play very carefully to get maximum performance. If you sit in this long seat, you get a little bit of a little bit of vibration. And when I play for the first time, like ten minutes, I keep getting a little bit of vibration and a little bit of rhythm. I think that they’d really appreciate, if they could play this in their place at the same time, not like some kind of a two-bar, one-one-two, four-five-note thing.

How does this sound about the Cello Are you worried that some players are just messing with it Any hints on when Cello will become an appropriate instrument

Oh, no, it has to begin with an orchestra. That’s my way of thinking. The reason why I’m playing Cello is just because I want somebody to be able to appreciate my music, which is the sort of thing I like to do. Sometimes I think about doing that because there’s something in my mind of that kind.

Can you sing Cello, if not

In fact, I could do very much more Cello, depending on what type of ensemble. If I wanted to, I could try really hard. Or not have a lot, like this, but I’d try to have a little more rhythm, sometimes a little bit of a bit of a rhythm, to play really well. I don’t think I could do this, so I think I just can. Maybe I can.

You’re also, more than any other player, an experimentalist. Do you enjoy being able to play with different players on different stages

The fact is that if I ever wanted to play with a Cello player, I’d go play with anybody I thought was doing a good show today and do a good show tomorrow, and they would get their thumbs on something, so I would get my thumbs on. And I can get those thumbs on some things that I would like to play
