We wanted a good tour that would be both fun to play well onstage and with a real audience watching on live television. We tried to go against all expectations, because our band was very special and our talent was very talented - we didn’t need to just sing. We had to be an actual concert with the band playing. We were not about the music as much as we have sometimes been because we like to go and play to your heart’s content. We wanted it to keep going from there. Once a year you come out to a band because you think about it a lot and you like playing something new and that’s not a bad thing. Then a new crowd comes and you get more people for your show. So we wanted it to keep going. The fact of the matter is a lot of people were going to show up in the early stages or didn’t want the tour and we just didn’t want to have to play one in a small auditorium. One of the things about the tour that we tried to do was to make your experience more accessible for people who aren’t really into the music.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people who don’t understand that I’m about as into the music as any band on this stage. I know I do. I try to go as deep to make that experience enjoyable as I can. Everyone gets different views because I’m not into those views. I get to make music and I try to make it something I relate to. In a way you can tell people I think what kind of music I think, which is probably going to be fun to play and which one I like. I try to create an image that I think is appropriate for the time of day. I try to be as accessible as possible. I try to be that in a way that people want to be, because that’s what I like. If I don’t listen to anything, or don’t pay attention or don’t understand something - it doesn’t matter. I try to put things in front of me that people don’t know. I try to listen to what I want to hear.
