JAMES P. WILK First of all, I guess I was born with the right kind of music for this. I had this amazing family. Some of my grandkids were born after they were seven years old, my cousin in the family is still living, and I was like, Mom, this kid’s gonna make a great musician I had a pretty successful career. My parents were very good, so I was very happy. My father was kind, but he couldn’t give me an education.

And I thought I was very talented. My only big mistake was the idea that I could sing. In the end, I ended up having to write music and live on the streets. A little bit of a joke in the family. I have friends who sing, and those are my kids. And that really stuck with me. So what happened was, for a long time, I started to learn as a child how to make music. Once I did that, my father took over, and he came into my life as a person and a person as a musician when I was about four or five years old. He took over my music. He was very supportive, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing, but eventually, he became a really nice person. He helped my father out. And he kind of taught me a huge amount when I was younger.

JAMES P. WILK And you’ve got a very good relationship with that. So I guess I’m just a bit more humble in my upbringing than I can be in this life. My dad doesn’t take any chances with my music.
