In an interview with The New York Times, former Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn. on Friday, said that while Democrats were not bashing out Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, Republicans might be looking to the country for help with immigration reform.

In a statement released at the end of the night, the Democrat’s office said that Lieberman had indicated that he was considering joining the effort to pass comprehensive immigration reform on the bipartisan level.

Mr. Lieberman believes that the best way for Democrats and voters to have a strong, effective, bipartisan immigration agenda is by voting for comprehensive immigration reform in order to win the hearts and minds of our American voters, the statement said. Mr. Lieberman believes that voting for comprehensive immigration reform as an issue will reduce the likelihood that Democrats and our voters will go to the polls for a strong national immigration policy.

After a long effort to pass immigration reform, Lieberman’s fellow Democrat, Joe Lieberman, endorsed the effort Wednesday.

I believe that the best way for Democrats and our voters to have a strong, effective, bipartisan immigration policy is by voting for comprehensive immigration reform in order to win the hearts and minds of our American voters, he wrote in the statement.

Lieberman also said that he was seeking to help Democrats and their supporters get along in New Jersey.
