MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday dismissed reports that he was considering revoking access to Ukrainian state television broadcast by his predecessor, Dmitry Medvedev, in violation of an international convention on freedom of expression, as Russia and Ukraine work to reach a treaty for reconciliation.

Putin and Medvedev agreed in June on new guidelines, which would have removed one year of state TV’s 90 minutes an hour and a half.

But Russia warned on Saturday that the deal would have risked becoming an unilateral issue that could leave the country’s parliament with little clout over international law.

The situation in Ukraine is complex, but in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, this matter of a new conference is not acceptable. I will not accept talks that involve the violation of the provisions of the Geneva Conventions, Putin said at a roundtable in Moscow after a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
