His argument is that in Canada, the US dollar has taken a hit from the downturn, and it’s been driven by trade with Japan.

Canada, Canada’s economy has lost one-fifth of its value over the past decade, an area often considered a safe haven for foreign companies. In addition, the country has been hit more frequently by the recession or economic turmoil because of poor economic performance.

And yet, Canadian business leaders and foreign government watchers say an influx of foreign trade is driving up global prices even as Canadian exports soar. For years, Canadian companies have complained that they are facing a currency war.

This spring, economists in Switzerland and Toronto began weighing the best options for an international currency exchange rate, including more than 100-per-barrel in U.S. dollars but an alternative currency such as renminbi that can be set on its own and be traded on a regular basis.

On Nov. 28, the Canadian Bankers Association recommended that, in a currency exchange rate that would cut the dollar’s value by about 25 per cent a year to around 2.25, the Canadian dollar would be replaced with a franc. The bank said it still hopes to find a way to raise the interest rate on the dollar to 1.15, where U.S. rates are currently at 10 cents per dollar.

This year, the government said it would be considering a return to the franc and possibly the renminbi.
