In his speech at the Republican National Convention on July 6, 2009, President Barack Obama alluded to the fact that some and much of the US public are already doing something with their smartphones. He also mentioned the fact that most and perhaps even most of these consumers will be able to do something about it. But he didn’t mention any of those things at all. When asked what he would do about the iPhone, Obama said I will give advice to the president, according to the New York Times.

We are currently in the midst of mass adoption of smartphones, as smartphone makers are turning over their workstations and computers to the government, which will also give them access to the content. But this new information should not overshadow the fact that many Americans already are using a growing amount of smartphones, even though the phone and computer they use have become more connected and easier to use and use.

Why would the government give this information off the public’s hands The NSA is now gathering all phone numbers of Americans, not just their address. By collecting phone metadata, the U.S. government is collecting data on millions of Americans, including those on a national or local level. This practice was first reported by journalist Edward Snowden, who exposed the ‘torturing’ of innocent Americans for purposes of espionage against adversaries. Now, with the Snowden leaks coming out, a major push to collect phone metadataand the U.S. is beginning to show interest in what data is being collected by the national security statemay not only give Americans the privacy rights required to protect themselves and their personal information online, it may also put American democracy at risk.

That said, as we already know that it is the government that wants all this metadata and what it wants, is to keep this information secret.

This also means that the government is not the only entity violating Americans’ rights. The FBI, Department of Education, and other government agencies are continuing their efforts to create a new, secure environment as technology becomes more integrated into our lives. The same process also means that many more Americans may be accessing other Americans’ datawhich is why we need to act now to prevent the future mass spying of our government by the NSA and other government surveillance efforts. And we can’t afford to overlook these efforts. We need to act now to stop the mass surveillance of all Americans, even when it comes to free speech.
