When I was three years old I started to learn piano and, in our school, there was an old saying, ‘One must learn to play’. I always thought it was odd that there was no piano in the house, and it didn’t take long for me to feel that someone knew which way I was going and which way I wasn’t going.

You’re also writing about your own life (on how things changed between working on the game and now writing a book)

I don’t really want to talk about my life so much. I’ve said that I am still living in a sort of a dream state. I do know how much time I’ve taken from making music to working on it, and my real goal is to make my music the best I can. And I don’t think that will change soon.

Do you do anything in the world that changes the way you think about music

I’ve always been interested in music for people who don’t know it. Like, I used to think that all the songs they liked, all the great artists, are in the same album. I was so happy when I was told that, I know, that I might not understand something about a particular genre. (And, to be clear, some of the albums of my favorite artists are not very good they are not just great songs, they are horrible songs) My idea is that I can understand music a lot better than I did before, and I’ll show people that I understand something.

How do you like to talk to people about all the things they’ve done, both in the public and private arena

I have my own very private space for all my life and this doesn’t feel like I’m doing any real public speaking for anyone else. I am just writing about how I feel about music and the people I work with, because now that I’ve got my own space I can talk to people.

It seems like we all live around that kind of music and all I can do is be here to show people what’s going on, but I can’t do that without a really good sense of humor. So the more I do, the more I learn.

For the record, we are both working on a very long project called Bloemfontein from now on, (which is due out this spring), the game is being developed by two people, which means the other person won’t get to see it for a while
