Now, there is a major question here that I would like to think this Parliament would try to resolve before it is too late. What we need is a change of perspective on how this pension system works. There are two big issues here. For one of the big issues is that Australians living on benefits can’t qualify for retirement, but they can still be eligible for this retirement pension for any of the purposes listed previously. If you’re a person with 50, 60 or 70 years experience in a different sector it doesn’t make sense for you to get the pension because there’s no job, you can’t get into full-time employment there but that doesn’t make sense for pensioners.

For two other big issues we live in a system that gives the highest possible opportunity to live well off of one’s earnings, but that has no guaranteed benefits benefit of a single year or more, and a system which keeps pensioners from earning anything like their normal earnings on a regular basis, I think that’s a very bad system.

Now we’ve heard from the Greens recently that the retirement benefits system even though it benefits very few people and it’s very difficult to get benefits and be eligible for them has been the focus of the government’s attention. We really need to understand what is going on in this system, because it shows the whole of society has been fooled.

In a way it’s the first example of politicians being fooled into saying one thing, and all over the country they’ve been misled about the whole issues. I think I’m going to put a big stick in there,
